Leg Cramps and Weight

Does weight have anything to do with leg cramps? I seem to have more leg cramps than my less weighty friends.

Good Question. I seem to think the overworking of the muscle is the true issue and not weight. I’ve been 20 pounds overweight and did not notice any difference.

I am overweight and occassionally get woken up in the middle of the night with leg craps. My husband, who is not overweight, in fact, may be considered underweight by some standards gets woken up several times a week. So I do not believe that weight is a factor for leg craps.

I don’t think weight has much to do with it. When I was younger I was an average weight and I got leg cramps all the time. Now, I’ve gained a lot of weight and have them less frequently, quite the opposite of your situation. I think more than anything you should focus on treating your legs well with daily exercise and stretching.

It’s probably more a case of weak leg muscles than weight per se.
You might try walking more or using a treadmill to build your endurance.
