Try giving up berries, grapes and cherries, teas, nuts and coffee
beans that have been sprayed with pesticides. I suffered for over 50 years with no solution that prevented the cramps totally. Then I found by accident that the pesticides used to spray these items was DEFINITELY causing my cramps -- in some people it even causes seizures.
I either avoid all of the above, OR ONLY UTILIZE REPUTABLE ORGANIC PRODUCE AND TEAS. The cramps have S T O P P E D!!!!!
Try this, you have nothing to lose.

Myth or no myth, I've tried the pills, all kinds. By prescription and over the counter, the Leg Cramp pills have worked for me for the past 5 years. I won't do without them nearby, either the regular pills or the chewables that work even faster, especially when I'm driving. But as far as the soap, I'm trying it, and you put it under the sheet. So far, so good. But I still have my Leg Cramp pills on hand.
I've had leg pains for 25 years, no change in the pain or cures. I've had my kids use rolling pins, stretch and pull on my legs, sat in hot water, used spas and even long walks everyday. It keeps coming back. Sometimes even worst. Now a days, I'm getting pains in my foot, along the inside. I can feel it creeping up on me, and I apply pressure until it subsides. But like I said, with the soap under my sheets, so far - nothing has bothered me.
So far. I'll post something again if things, change.

I think the remedies depend upon the cause of the cramping. Potassium nor calcium are the cause of mine according to bloodwork. However, magnesium seems to play some sort of role because after a few weeks of taking magnesium supplements every day, the cramps are not as intense. I still have them every single day and or night, but not as bad. As for the soap under the sheets. I have done this and it does help mine. Unfortunately, one bar of soap may only help for 2 to 3 nights. I've started cutting the bar of soap in half and get the same effect. The downfall of this is that I end up with an awful lot of soap to use up.

I have tried, the mustard, pickle juice, vinegar and all to no avail. I use the hyland's leg cramps (cheapest at Walmart)and the legatrim PM every night. My fear is that I use too much of it.

I would agree with the two previous posters. How could a bar of soap help with leg cramps? From a scientific standpoint with the information we know right now, it seems highly unlikely. Then again, science is always changing. If you want it enough, your body will react to it, it seems. I'd say this is just a myth (about the soap).

I agree with Larkkangel63. It is the placebo effect. My grandmother suffered horrible leg pain and tried the soap technique. She said it didn't help at all...she never believed it would help either. She did say that eating bananas did help (potassium).

I think a lot of this is mental. If we hear it works and we beleive it enough, we make it happen. I have tried the bar of soap under the bed and I think because I thought it was so foolish I convinced myself it doesn't work. But I started to tell myself that I am the cause of my own leg cramps and would keep telling myself they would go away. Eventually it started to get better, and than now they are few and far between. Who knows...

I haven't heard this one, but my friend swears by yellow mustard to relieve leg cramps and keeps a small packet by her bed in case she wakes during the night. She says it works everytime. Her aunt uses this too. I plan to try it out next time I have a cramp at night.

My sister read this in a magazine and she had RLS for months and when she told me about the bar of soap under the mattress, I just laughed. How could that work? But my sister uses Caress Soap bar under the sheets down by her legs and she said this worked! I don't understand why it works though. She told her doctor about what she does and he rolled her eyes at her! But even though we don't know why it works, it does, so she keeps doing it!
